A mid-season check is designed to protect your pool during this period and significantly reduce the risk of problems when it’s time to open for summer.
At Gareth James Pools Ltd, our mid-season winter visit helps keep everything stable, protected and ready for a smooth Pool opening.

What Our Mid-Season Check Includes

• Lowering the water level if required
• Clearing debris from around the pool and winter cover
• Adding preventative treatment to help reduce algae growth
• Checking pumps, filters and associated equipment
• Identifying early signs of leaks, frost damage or other issues

This proactive visit helps prevent avoidable complications later in the season.

Why It’s Important;
Each summer we attend a large number of green pools. These typically require:

• Additional chemical treatment
• One or more return visits
• Several days of continuous filtration
• Increased wear on filter media
• Delayed heating and use of the pool

Green pools often take 5–10 days to fully recover, depending on severity. During this time:

• The pool cannot be heated or used
• The filtration system must run continuously
• Running costs increase

A mid-season check greatly reduces the likelihood of this and helps ensure your pool is ready to open when you are.

​Mid-season checks are preventative and do not guarantee that the pool will be algae-free when summerised, as several factors influencing algae growth are outside of our control.
Algae growth can be affected by air temperature, rainfall levels, organic debris, and how late the pool is opened in the season.
Our aim is simple: to protect your investment and ensure your summer starts as smoothly as possible.
Alongside a mid-season check, we strongly recommend not leaving your pool opening too late in the season — even if the weather hasn’t yet turned sunny. Water temperatures often begin rising before consistent sunshine appears, increasing the risk of algae developing beneath the cover.
Opening at the right time, combined with preventative care, gives you the best chance of a clean, trouble-free start to the swimming season.
